The design will be an adaptive re-use or the pld Pacific Stock Exchange building in San Francisco's financial district and the adjacent tower.
The building is located at the corner of Pine and Sansome streets. When I visited, I found out that the trading floor portion of the building had been converted to a gym, and I have to admit it was a pretty nice space for a gym.
some rudimentary site analysis:

I have been asked what the idea is behind reusing an old exchange building. I think there are several reasons. I would like to maintain a connection to the history of this type throughout the project and this is one way of (quite literally) doing so. One of the key issues for this project is the integrating of past, present and future with the building's use. The architecture wants to be a study of these implications, using whatever manner of expression they take to apply to th physical building itself: connections, finishes, the relationship of volumes, etc.
This entry has been posted retrospectively to preserve the order of things, I flew to San Francisco to visit the site on Thursday the 5th of January... that's the next post, where you will find site photos.
