Some More Things I Made
View looking west at the building from sansome street (not really, it's just a model...)

Perspective looking in at trading floor spaces. This scheme has a large (left) and small (right) trading floor.

Some kind of screen element, perhaps the cladding for the large trading floor. Inspired by techtonic plates?

Another view of the model showing the various building volumes. The building with the columns in the front is the old Pacific Exchange, the tower in back is the Exchange Tower, and the two other volumes are additions.

The model was made before I had the great inspiration that I did the other night (the one that seems to me now to be the most obvious approach, not sure why I didn’t come up with in a more timely manner).
The collage is from the day after feeling inspired, it is about the tectonic plates of the Pacific Rim and about the expansion seams and about the new building and how it integrates with the old. I was thinking about some weighty roof/wall plates that have lightweight seams between them made of glass that is blown to appear as if it the windows were puffed out with air.
I also developed a first set of plans for six floors and one elevation, I'll be revisiting all of them for wednesday so there's no sense posting them now. In fact, by friday I will probably be on the third version of these initial drawings. They are going quickly because they are not very developed (they are at a 1:20 scale). I'll post what I have later this week.

Mary, your work is great. it seems as if keeping this blog is really keeping your work organized for you. it will be easier to put it in your thesis text later. Your models and descriptions read well. the most recent models, though, you didnt describe. thus it is hard to know what is going on with them. the photos of your models really help us to read what the interior space might be like. keep these up. the drawings look nice. but for the blog, i would blow them up a little bit. the sketches from your sketchbook and mail and whatnot are difficult to read. but you have a really clear presentation going through this. if you zoom back to the exterior bldg again and its composition in relation to the existing bldg, let me know. i would like to give feedback on this. you have some good ideas going on with how it relates to the exstg bldg, but this can be pushed further.

Thanks Erin, I keep forgetting to give descriptions of the images! I will correct this, as well as the size of some of the images. There is a limit to how large the images can be so I will do the best I can to make them legible. I'll do what I can.
